Expert opinion
Salt licks placed on farms are one of the necessary factors
to maintain the health and productivity of farm animals - experts assessed.
Supporting feeding with licks should take place throughout the year. This is particularly important in the case of animals that spend the summer on pastures and do not receive any nutritious feed or have access to it in limited quantities. Specialists say that such deficiencies lead to the depletion of the diet in minerals,
which can be supplemented with minerals contained in the licks.
Salt licks have been used for many years to supplement ion deficiencies in cattle, sheep, goats and horses.
Intuitive, free uptake of salt by animals, depending on their physiological state and production level, helps to meet their individual mineral needs. Licks are one of the factors necessary for proper metabolism, determining the health and productivity of animals.
Licks are a source of easily digestible sodium and chlorine for animals. Due to the high potassium content in feed, animals have a nutritional deficit for these minerals. Animals in the period of intensive development are particularly vulnerable to it. Himalayan salt also contains a composition of other micronutrients that are not provided in adequate amounts by fodder.
Horse diet
During fall, winter and early spring, horses require special dietary treatment. What does it mean? In practice, horses' diets may require more attention at a time when the animal has limited access to pasture, especially fresh grass. Therefore, different feed mixtures, supplements and salts should be used - the so-called licks.
There are many licks available on the market, but if our main goal is to supplement the shortage, then we should focus on finding a lick with an enriched mineral composition.
Such a lick is undoubtedly a lump of pink Himalayan salt. In addition to its undoubtedly beautiful appearance, pink salt is rich in 84 ingredients, including iron and phosphorus
and calcium.
Himalayan salt is also completely unprocessed, which is its superiority over traditional white salt in cubes known for years on the market.
